"Shifting Still" takes as its point of departure the archetype of the “femme fatale” commonly seen in popular film and television, constructing a sensual female image as its starting point. Through repetition and subtle shifts in movement, the work gradually loosens this image’s prescribed status as object. As repetition becomes an act of the subject, the accumulated image reaches a state of sensory saturation, in which it can be rewritten and reclaimed. The work reveals the coexistence of the female body being gazed at, interpreted, and self-presented.
