That's All You Can Do
Dark room, mirror, video projection
Variable dimension
2016

The projector being the only light source was placed at the far end of a complete dark room and a looping, out-of-focus video was projected towards the entrance. The original intent for this work was to let viewers wander in it with their sensitivity being naturally intensified due to the totally blacked out environment and to discover that the blurred projection was actually adjusted to get focus at a position where the viewers could stand in front of a mirror and see themselves with clear projection on their bodies so that their participation could complete the work.

The installation turned out to have triggered different reactions. Some viewers found the trick, some did not, some tried to interpret the blurred projections,  some did not go further into the dark and just left. In addition to the initial intention of the work, the variations of people's response reveal the most natural state of human when one is placed in an unusual condition with a least amount of clue.
